Meet the board! Each month we’ll feature a community member currently serving on the Board for Rice County Area United Way. This month we’re featuring Gordon Liu. Gordon works as a strategy consultant, helping nonprofits, startups, and small businesses chart a path towards their vision. Gordon is a three-term AmeriCorps Alum and a member of the Buckham Memorial Library Advisory Board. When not working, Gordon can be found perusing a bookstore, enjoying large amounts of coffee, or exploring Southern Minnesota with his wife and two children.

What motivates you to serve on the board for Rice County Area United Way?

I serve on the RCAUW board because community issues don't stop at the town line—more than ever, challenges are multifaceted, intersectional, dynamic, and impact many communities across multiple geographies. And serving on this board allows me to help impact these issues.

What’s your favorite place in Rice County?

I am a big fan of Buckham Memorial Library (in Faribault). We spend a lot of time there, as a family, participating in the various programs or checking out piles of books. And I love the role a library plays: a space that cultivates community through shared learning, connections, and creation.

What excites you about United Way?

I love the creativity and passion of a small team of dedicated people. Books on Central started as a wisp of an idea, and through the dedication of a few key people and the generosity of many others, a strong social enterprise has developed.
