Dave Campbell is retired from a career working with persons with disabilities and an ex-officio member of the United Way Board. He and his wife Jeanne moved to Faribault after college and began their careers and raised their two children. They fell in love with their "small town" and enjoy the proximity to arts, culture and sporting events "up the highway." They are life-long advocates for volunteering and local community support. The United Way fulfills their vision of supporting others in these ways. Dave and Jeanne serve as volunteer managers of Books on Central, the unique used bookstore in downtown Faribault. All proceeds raised by Books on Central support Rice County Area United Way partner agencies.
1) What motivates you to serve on the board for Rice County Area United Way?
I am motivated by a desire to be involved in supporting nonprofits that are filling gaps, supporting people with a local focus.
2) What's one of your favorite places in Rice County? Why is it your favorite?
Selfishly, I would say our farm. It's a beautiful 17 acres on an environmental lake with waterfowl, a variety of wildlife and trails to roam. In terms of public space, I would say the township and gravel roads. You can tour throughout our county and see large farms, small farms, lakes, rivers, parks and towns - in all four seasons.
3) Share what excites you most about our United Way.
There are 3 main areas United Way focuses on: Healthy Community, Youth Opportunity, and Financial Stability/Basic Needs. United Way uses grant allocation boards made up of community neighbors to review all applications and recommend funding decisions on each request. This added process assures local verification of our communities’ priorities.
